BOWSERS DOG BEDS. We've tried lots of different beds over the years, and our absolute favorites are made by Bowsers Pet Products We have them all over the house; they're gorgeous-looking, no matter what your decor, fabulously comfortable for the dogs, and the rich microvelvet covers are completely machine-washable - they come out of the dryer looking brand new.
And Tarka has a new favorite Bowsers bed (bought to replace the shredded Metropolitan Bed). It's the Double Donut, which is soft and squishy and provides lots of comforting cuddliness with its sofa-like shape. It comes in a wonderful selection of fabrics too. Willie rather likes it too, but frankly, it's a bit small for him!
Tip: one thing we've found helpful on slippery hardwood floors, is to put a non-slip rug pad under the bed to keep it in place. Though when Tarka tears down the stairs and takes a flying leap onto the bed, he still gets a magic carpet ride across the room!

The beds come with a variety of different fillings. For older or arthritic dogs we like the "memory" filling which is a high loft 100% virgin polyester fiber. This was especially important for Muddy, who needed good cushioning for his increasingly weak hips, but couldn't get up off a bed that was too soft. Bowsers have dozens of different styles and colors of beds, depending on your pet's comfort and your fashion taste! Our favorites are pictured here. Since Muddy chose to spend most of his day outdoors, except when we were not home, it was much easier to get photographs of Willie on the beds. Here he's shown on the elegant Metropolitan bed, in Espresso with Sky trim. Unfortunately this bed is no longer: not only did Willie and Tarka use it for a tug of war in my absence (the photo below tells the tale - not one of their best evenings; they also dismantled the sofa), but Bowsers has discontinued it. If you have an older pet who needs a memory foam bed, we now recommend the Isotonic Memory Foam Mattress, the Contour Lounger, or the Luxury Crate Mattress.
We love the Luxury Crate Mattresses (but we don't use them in crates); they provide cushioning but are firm and supportive and older dogs can get up from them easily. Willie is shown relaxing on one in Pecan Filigree (below right). Being blind, Willie doesn't always notice which way he's lying on the bed; but this one is big enough to accommodate his very long, tall body even though he's sideways.
Muddy especially liked sleeping on these Mattresses: we bought one for the bedroom after Willie joined us, and Muddy took possession, so we had to get a second one for Willie. Muddy's old bed (not a Bowsers' product) was moved to the garage. Tarka also loves these beds; though he is young, he is a skinny boy, and the beds provide soft cushioning for his bony little body. He especially enjoys snuggling with Willie, who is quite content to share his space (below left).

BOWSERS THROW BLANKETS. We love these beautiful, reversible, microvelvet throw blankets to protect furniture from muddy paws and, in our case, lots of white hair, What was I thinking when I bought a chocolate brown velvet sofa? Well, in those days, we only had Muddy, who (a) didn't shed and (b) chose to spend most of his time outdoors. Tarka, however, has adopted our big (chair-and-a-half) armchair as his own, and loves to jump on it as soon as he comes in from a walk. The 34 x 26 inch throw in Duke (Cayenne) is the ideal solution: it coordinates perfectly with the chair, and, like all Bowsers products, is machine-washable.

Muddy loved his Bowsers beds, but he was an outdoor-loving dog and they are definitely not outdoor beds. Sometimes, as shown here, Muddy just preferred the flower bed!
